Prooving your engines age.

Engine number?!??!!

Just bought a cracking condition zetec out of an M reg escort so pre 95. Another lowcoster has got me weeing my pants as i dont have written proof as such of the age. What number should i send of to ford to check its age? and how does one go about getting written proof of the engines age?

Nathan

Have you got the V5, or a copy of it, with the engine no. on it?

The information is available from Burton Power.

But I dont know weather that would stand for the sva ?

the engine number starts with 3 letters telling you the engine capcity and what car it has come from. There are also 2 letters to give you the age

ie ST would be Aug 1995

it has NGO3102 punched into the head but nothing in the letter number variety anywhere else.

No V5 came straight from the scrappy.

NG is apr 1992

Above that there will be 3 letters ie NGA

Thats a 2L phase 1 +2 mondeo engine

Rdb are you sure ?

Engine number is on the side of the block just above the starter.

If its not there it could be a ford replacment engine. They where ment to change the numbers over but often didnt. With out it you are knackered as its the one on the block that counts.

Every part on the engine could be made yesterday except the block, this is what it goes by.

You may be able to clean it up with wire brush or wet&dry to read it. Position as shown.
Send the number to:-
Ford Technical Information Centre,
Ford Motor Co
PO Box 300
Walsall
WS5 4QH
They will confirm the engine age for you with a letter for SVA. Rescued attachment zeta.JPG

Ok thanks for the help guys, i'll ring ford to check whether the number on the head would match a pre 95 zetec from a escort.

Does anyone know where too aquire authentic engine block stamps then?
Otherwise is this somthing I have to lump or is it worth battling it out with the scrap yard that sold me a pre 1995 genuine ford Zetec engine?

Why do I always have to learn the hard way.
