M1 speed camera

On sunday there was a white van on a bridge on the m1 near the donnington turnoff with its side door open. There was also a police car under the bridge with its lights on and something aimed at the traffic but it was aimed to the traffc at about 45 degrees. Any1 know what this is? numberplate detection etc. Also do people know if thes was a speed camera or something else?

Yep, ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). If the computer highlights an anomaly, the marked police car pulls you.

Ummm Id have thought someone driving a mobile bomb would make sure their motor is legit in order not to draw any attention from PC Plod..

Saw a couple of cops out today, just sitting on the hard shoulder with the ANPR camera looking down the road.

My tax disc has expired on my tin top. I renewed it online, so not fussed about ANPR / DVLA, but not parking it on meters until the new one comes!

Yeh, but then you'd also think they'd put some money in the meter so they don't get towed away

I think it was more to do with the fact that they use mobile automatic plate recognition vans to monitor stretches of motorway not covered by fixed cameras... Allows the people who need to know to know where everyone is.... Nicking the people on the M5 was all thanks to the same technology....

You'd also think people as intelligent as doctors would do some research on explosives. Interesting article from the ex-UXB man on the register.

Well having read the take the bomb didposal guy has on it I better come clean & turn myself in as a potential terrorist, I've often been out in my van with oxy-acetalyne bottles, a tank of fuel & a box of assorted nuts & bolts.
