surely he could get off using the 'Test Drive' defence. 
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

Surely he should have died since speed kills
On the other hand Daniel Nicks (oh the irony) did 175 on a motorbike. He got 6 weeks prison and 2 year ban. Saying that the prisons weren't
full then...

6 months, 3 year ban and fines are now all means based so from the looks of him, maybe 1G up.

Would you be referring to the case of the traffic cop getting away with 159mph as he was testing the limits of his new patrol car. If that is the
case then unfortunately this little known loophole only applies to drivers of that particular vehicle type - 3.2GSi Vectra C.

Depends if they make the aggravated vehicle taking charge stick.
For just the speeding 2 months inside, 5 year ban.
Since you only get 4 months for ineptly attempting to pervert the course of justice
[link] these days I wouldn't expect more.
Magistrates are so random in their punishments though it's all a complete lottery.

This could be a very interesting case as regards to public perception of the dangers of speeding and the whole "speed kills" thing. No one
got at all hurt by the actions of this guy and there were no other consequences, yet he will most likely get a custodial sentence. This at a time when
people who have been found guilty of bodily harm (which obviously implies someone got hurt) and many cases of burglary (which has many consequences
for those burgled) do not get custodial sentences because the prisons are full.
Who would you rather see lose their liberty? I know the answer for me, and I hope that there will be many letters written to MP's etc. if
someone committing a "crime" with no effect on anyone or anything has to take up a prison space meaning a violent thug is left free to
walk the streets.

i can see where you are coming from, but my approach would be to build more prisons and lock them all up! Id bet 50% of the drivers on this forum who
have been driving over 5 years will have been within 30mph of that on the roads, but still, 175 is damned fast and, whilst i obviously wasnt there, id
be suprised if it was really safe at the time. We all percieve things differently i doubt id have been happy sat beside him. There does need to be a
deterrant. Of all the people i know who have done over 140, i cant think of any who i would call good/competent/safe drivers.

Traffic incident local to me.
You can kill someone on the roads and get away with a fine. Why should the bloke in the Porsche get more?
I thought the driver in the above link got away extremely lightly.

the driver will be made an example of to try and deter other drivers from driving that fast.i suspect that as he is the fastest car to be caught he
willl do some time. if only the courts could be so tough on called petty criminals!!!!
