Andy

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

We;re always debating Private/Public Partnerships here in Canada. If that's where we're going, it doesn't look good.

RK,

We have private/public partnerships in hospitals.

They are working really well. Not.

What you have to bear in mind, is we have this thing called the National Health Service (NHS. We pay about 7% of our earnings in tax as National Insurance Contributions. This was to pay for free doctors visits, tests, and treatment.

The Private funding is being used to build new hospitals. Then the NHS comes in and uses these marvellous new facilities. Unfortunately, if you are one of the poor soles needing treatment, and want say, a private room, a tv, a phone; you pay through the nose for it (phone calls cost about 50p a minute (ie nowhere near cost price). Needless to say, most people are saying up yours to the "extras" and the co's are going bust.
