When did you pass your test?

Why will you be driving?

Are you being paid?

It could depend on lots of things such as when you passed your test and how old you are, and not just the insurance.

Your driving license should provide much of the information to say if you are qualified to do it.

Then you just have to check with the insurance policy.

I believe if not done for any profit you do not need a PSV licence.

If I could find my license I would give examples.

Adrian

p.s. also dependent on the gros vehicle weight as well.

No, sorry, the simple rule is:

If you can't spell it then you're not allowed to drive it.

I am a volanteer ambulance driver, and drive a 14 seater Merc Sprinter, which as I understand it is the maximum amount of seats that you can drive without a PSV. Been doing it now for several years, no pay, but get some wonderful cakes most weeks, tips on my birthday, and money and booze at christmas, all from the wrinkly's that I ferry around, :-) Love it, it's great fun. Cheers Ray
Edit to say, licence held since 1958!!!!!

Depends on firstly your age as the rules have changed for younger drivers (than me)

My licence, issued in 1982 says

Cat B
"not exceeding 3.5 tons and no more than 8 seats"

Then I have Cat D1
"passenger carrying vehicles with more than 9 seats but not more than 17 in all, Category Restriction 1 Applies."

Cat 1 restriction = Not for hire or reward.

That means no more than 16 seats in addition to the drivers seat

Couple of points, I've had my license since 1982 and I do have PSV as well having past my bus test in a splendid old Routemaster around Chelsea!

So I can drive anything with any number of seats for hire/reward, whatever, as long as its not a manual gearbox!

Steve
