Heeeeelp 18cvh

I am getting to the stage where i am about to fit my engine out of the family runaround only to realise that it is a 1.8 cvh and reading this site has put doubts whether it is a viable option. So question 1) could this be put into lowcost book chassis if so 2)what if any mods are required

Thanks you guys

stats,

If it's any help, I put mine in a skip!

Well, it had had it.

If yours is ok, you might as well use it.

DO NOT throw away the engine mounting rubbers - they're £60 each!!!!!!

Have a look at my photo archive - you'll see I did have it in at one point - but note the engine mountings (ther are wooden blocks - it was temporary!!)

Someone else on here has mounted CVH - but I can't remember who - so unless they announce who they are, have a wander through all photo archives.

1800 CVH

ITS ME!!!! , yes i admit it I have a 1.8 CVH in my Locost.

It fits in the book chassis with a few mods.

1)cut big lump off cam cover ,relocate oil filler to rear.

2)shorten sump and oil pick up ,extend front of sump to improve oil capacity

3)make your own engine mounts, and alternator mounts, but retain the original mounting rubbers

4)cut the middle out of the bottom tube that runs across between FU1 and FU2, then weld another tube across directly butted to the original ,(for front pulley clearance).

5)sort out the engine related parts of the Sierra under bonnet wiring loom.

Gives you a torquey low maintenance engine that only has to change gear once an hour, not once a second like these Bike Engined whippersnappers!!!!!!!!!!

I really wanted to use the 1.8 CVH in my car but could not find one that was not shagged. I asked a few mates in the trade who said the engine is fine as long as it is serviced properly, but when sierras get close to being donors, the owners tend not to spend anything on servicing and this is where they fall apart. I know all engines need to be serviced properly, but 1.8 CVH's really really need it !
