VW engine to a ford box
Can anyone help! I want to replace to pinto with a 16v golf engine? Or poss a 20v turbo!

This comes up from time to time, as does the Pug GTi engines. The general opinion seems to be that you'll need a custom design/manufacture bell
housing or bell housing adapter to mate the engine to a Ford box.
Adapters for more commonly used engines like the Vauxhaul XE and Toyota 4AGE are readily available at a cost.
Do/Did VW/Audi etc make any suitable RWD boxes?

The only rear wheel drive VW/audi group vehicles I can think of are vans/minibuses and the 924. Whether or not thier gearboxs would fit latter engines
is another problem.

I think these chappies have been fitting Audi/VW motors to Locost's : http://www.racetech.ee

I think there has been an article in Practical performance car about making your own adaptors, not sure which issue it was in but they mentioned in
Issue 7 that it would be in a later issue.

Thought I should chime in as I'm using a VW engine. Its a brazilian AP, extremely tuneable (in excess of 140bhp after a head job, angles on
vavles, new camshaft and bigger carb) it was originally based on the VW Germany engine put into the 924....its very similar to latest golf/polo block,
so much so that the head off the golf (crossflow) will go straight onto my block. As for height, I increased the scuttle 1 inch, and the bonnet at
that point, theres a hole for the filter in the bonnet too, poking throuhj about 20mm max, looks pretty good. Remember its on a carb, injection may
change that and the induction system is on the other side to mine, exhaust the same. Go for it!

Forgot to say I chopped the sump quite a bit too, necessitating an oil cooler to increase oil capacity just in case. Look at the estfield site,

i have seen a dutch company put vw engines in a 7 type car i think its called a donkervort not sure of the spelling tho
they must be using a rwd box they look very well put together

what transmission did you use ??

As Owelly hasn't answered I will for him! That white bellhousing was a DIY jobbie made in steel for a cost of a few quid, "can-do"
engineering at its best, and extremely cheap with it!

The bellhousing was featured in PPC mag a couple issues ago. Really nice piece of kit- and cost very little

The "bellhousing" issue is PPC Dec 2005. There is one on ebay right now.

in that case can you not use the 924 transmission setup? that was rwd?

The 924 had a transaxle, ie gearbox at the back, so no use for Locost.
