95% Complete Locost for sale

I bought the car above with the plan to install a 2.0litre pinto and use the car for hill climbing.

This work is now 95% complete, but i've not managed to get the car finished for this season and have lost interest in the project.

Spec:
2.1 pinto rebuilt by Mark Shillaber at SRD motorsport
lightened flywheel
45mm twin carbs
high lift cam
5 speed type9 gearbox
Quaiffe ATB limited slip diff
New propshaft
Stainless steel tubular exhaust.
GRP bucket seats, 4 pont harnessess.

Remaining work:
Finish engine ignition wiring
Fit dash, seats, and interior panels.
General tidying up.

A lot of money has been spent on parts, and there's nothing else needed to finish the car (only someone's time)

I've spent over £5k to date, but i'm looking for £3k.
I also have a pinto Big Valve Head for sale for £400 extra if interested.

The car's in Plymouth
Cheers for looking,
AL

You might want to state that it's been SVA'd and can drive away (wiring + exhaust permitting of course!)

Although it has a plate and I can see a tax disc - that's YOUR biggest selling point. Finish it and go

Yep - the car's been sva'd and is ready to go (once finished).
MOT and TAX have expired but the car was on the road from 2001 until last summer when i bought it.

Cheers,
AL

i dont know what it is about the locost chassis design but i cant believe how far forward the engine is from the flat shelf that runs across the back of the engine bay! my engine sits about 1" from the chassis rail of that shelf, from the photo's you've put up it looks like your engine sits at least a foot from the shelf.

what sort of effect does this have on the steering? does it cause a lot of understeer with the engine so far forward?

I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

your dax was designed to fit the pinto with a 5 speed box (same as mine) and they didn't leave much room ! - on a dax with a 4 speed box I think the engine is in the same place and you get a longer propshaft

I'm just guessing now (AL20vT - correct me if I'm wrong) but if this car probibly had an x-flow and a 4 speed box origonaly which is shorter (and lighter) - so he may have had to put the pinto further forward to get it to fit

but to me that doesn't look like its sitting much further forward than alot of the other kits I've seen

Hi chaps - the car did have an x-flow and 4 speed originally.
This current setup is as far back as the pinto can sit allowing sufficient clearance between gearbox and chassis.

As above, this is no different to any other pinto/type 9 locost out there.

Cheers,
AL

How much does the engine weigh? My Nissan is way further back but weighs a ton (435 lb or something).

Hi Omega, what should the ideal weight distribution be?

This one looks right for a locost to me.

Mine looks like that and I don't think the front end is heavy - the weight distribution without driver is 50:50 front to rear, 278kg and 278kg respectively.

Which I thought was about right - or isn't it??

What is the ideal?

regards

Alex,

My GTS looks identical too, and the weight distribution was 52:48 fr:rr at SVA. The dax transmission tunnel is a lot wider than a std locost one, so will let the engine sit way back in the chassis.

As for the car for sale, its a bargain at £3k, needs some work, but a cheap summer toy for someone!

David
