Yes, send off SVA form, pass test, then book with DVLA to register vehicle. You may get a home visit or have to take to their local office.

But.........

Some DVLA offices like you to let them know that you are building a car as sometimes they'll do a build-up examination before SVA and they sometimes insist on allocating you your VIN number before SVA.....

Best to let them know you're building a car and ask them re VIN number. If they say it's up to you to decide one it (often the case) make sure you get the name of the person saying this because no doubt by the time you pass SVA they'll have changed their mind and in retrospect decided they did want to allocate it after all!!!!

The normal system is

1) you decide vehicle chasis (VIN number)
2) build car
3) pass SVA
4) go to DVLA for inspection and registration
5) get number plate

Make sure keep any and all invoices, SVA and DVLA increasingly ask for them as proof of amateur build...

Ask for the SVA and DVLA tests to be done at the same time. Saves you 2 trips
