Kit car first MOT

I was planning on heading over to Peterborough show tomorrow and am now panicing...

My car is 13 months old (since registration) and I have no idea whether I need an MOT on it now, or the first one when it is 3 years old...

If I need an MOT then obviously I cannot go to Peterborough as I am sure VOSA will have some vans out checking...

Does anyone know certain what the ruling is on this?

Regards

Mark

Def 3 years. Somewhere on here there's a copy of an e-mail they sent me about it... might be useful to produce. Should be easy to find by searching "MOT"...

I can't speak from personal experience but a friend of mine had to MOT after 12 months. I think there is a comment on the V5 to state which you need to do (i.e. 12 months or 3 years)

i am not speaking from experience but i would guess that if the vehicle is registered on an age related plate that was over 3/4 years old then you will need an mot. If your vehicle is newly registed, ie a Q plate, then i don't think you need an mot.

my aim is to build my own locost wether it takes me a week or 10 years to get started, i'm sure i will sometime

My is on age related plated of 1980, but was SVA'd & registered as built in 2006, no MOT required until 2009.

just for the benfit of anyone doing a search in future, this is incorrect. the V5C will state a new date of first registration whichever plate the car ends up with. it's 3 years after the most recent date of first registration that the car needs an MOT.

Mines on a Q plate, didnt MOT for 1st 3 years. However obtaining road fund licence can be interesting and proof of 1st registration was needed (V5) BUT looking back an MOT is the cheapest profesional check over you will evar have
