seats

I need some advice on seats. I was looking to get some Cobra Roadster 7 style ones. The problem is that they appear to be just too wide, only by a few mm but I don't want to get them and then find out. Also any advice on runners to use would be good.

Zetec,

the roadster seats do fit in the MK because the guy at Sports power drive (who builds indies) uses them. They look the dogs knackers

Jon Ison has them in his car 'The Isonblade' and they seem to fit ok and it's a book built chassis. Mail him for advice, he never tires of talking about his bag of shite rice burner (only joking Jon!).

Those seats are nice,but i did fear that they are a bit too hight for the minimum 450mm top belt anchorage limit.
Maybe ok without any runners,would be interested in finding that one out.

I've got the old bedford rascal seats,they look ok but do need quite a lot of work to make good.
Making your own seats gives you a lot more money for other bits like shocks,worth thinking about as you can always put the pukka seats in later.

I believe that where the belts pass through the harness holes is counted as the height of the belts, not the anchor points so should'nt be a problem!

We are using Cobra Roadster 7 seats in a 'book' chassis, bought from Merlin who also supply "Universal seat runners" at £16-99 per seat set which includes fasteners, they lift the seat about 25mm.

According to the SVA inspector this is only true if the seat is substantial enough to hold the belt at this position when the belt is restraining the occupant. He didn't consider MK's fibreglass bucket seats to offer enough support.

Yeah,i got the same info from the SVA helpline so my homemade high back seats may need a bit of bolstering.
No doubt i'll have to raid the piggy bank again if that fails.

Just ask to be put through to technical help,they seem quite helpfull.

I checked the £125 a pair seats out at donington and they were too wide

Don't know if you noticed the Indy on the SPA stand at Donny (the orange one just across the isle from the MK stand) - but it was fitted out with Westfield seats (for a SEiW) - not to mention the Westfield aeroscreen & instruments + a very neat moulded dash

I looked at the car on the spa stand,not the best show car i've seen.The Westfield bits covered up tatty work,and not only were the front top wishbones upside down they were round the wrong way as well.
Seats were nice but i bet there is a hefty price to pay for westfield stuff.

They were for sale on the Westfield stand at about £380 / pair. Great looking seats, but then they should be at that price.

Anyone take a pic of this car? I wanna know what the aeroscreen would look like on an MK.

Yup - pictures are still in the camera though.

Talking to the SPA guy - the aeroscreen was unmodified - so it looks like a full Westfield screen may fit as well (I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to a 100mph+ wind - trackdays only - honest! )

I'll post the pictures when I've got them processed

Anyone know if the plain plastic fibreglass bucket seats are ok for the SVA? I saw some at Donnington and look nice simple and of course waterproof.

I have a pair of the fiberglass seats in my Indy. It went though without failing on them but he did bend them a lot and did look quite thoughtful as he was doing this.

But reading higher up the post they might have up the ant a bit on the seats. My car was SVA'd at Derby.

Hi guys,I've got Martins fibreglass seats as well ,but after sitting in all the seats commonly available the westfield ones do seem miles ahead in every sense.
Time to get the credit card out again!
