Blade turbo update

It seems ages since I started to turbo my carb blade engine, but today finally managed to get it running and showing some boost.

To make life easier, more complicated I have fitted with 954 blade injection, port spacing is different running on megasquirt, although I already had these running previously I have made a new manifold and air box of a better quality than my previous attempt.

Only had it running in the garage so far but the turbo makes a bit of boost on idle, its a special variable vane thing, no waste gate that I got from Scootz a couple of months ago.

Just reving the engine it pushes 2 - 3psi boost, its a clever little turbo.

Intercooler is uprated RS turbo escort, intercooler pipes are an old bed frame, keeping it low-cost wherever possible.

Just need to add a BOV tomorrow and some straps as the TB's try and lift when I rev it.

If I can spin the wheels up in the dry in third I will be very happy. Rescued attachment Turbo inlet small.JPG

Its one of these.

Intercooler is just planted on the front, turbo is sitting on the side as no room within the bodywork as I made the drivers footwell large and shoved the engine as far over as I could when building the car. Rescued attachment Turbo_top_small_01June2009.JPG

Very inpressed with general concept. The plenum is looking great I see so many simple log plenums which don't distribute the inlet charge properly.

I went supercharged but really want to try a VATN turbo. At the time there were only diesel ones which couldn't take the heat but I saw one on a Renault 1.4 and though limited to 250 BHP the torque curve was practically flat from 2K from to redline

Radiators front view, Corky bell said add ducting to stop air from spilling around the rads so a bit of ali later and have welded this lot on.

Although it looks huge the nose cone still fits on top!

The rad is behind the centre line of the front wheels. Rescued attachment Intercooler_rad_low_view_small.JPG

Great stuff... always pleased to see bits that I previously owned but never had the talent to fit being put to good use!
