Wrist pin circlip q

Hi,

After pinging a wrist pin circlip into the back of my garage never to be seen again I was wondering if it would be safe to use a normal internal circlip (you know the ones with the two holes in that you can use proper circlip pliers on) rather than the simple flat wire ones?

Its only for a small 6 - 7 hp 4 stroke single cylinder motor on a small dirt bike.

Cheers

In a word yes
There was debate on Turbosports about wire over flat and flat was considered better
However for high power high revs the circlip should be a tight fit compressed so there is minimal gap when in the groove
You should put the gap in the oil groove so some oil still hits the pin end

In a word - no , the groove will be rounded to suit the wire clip , but a circlip needs a deeper square groove . The 45 degree chamfer in the ends of the pin force the clip into the groove - that wont happen with a circlip .
