New Book - Motorcycle Engined Cars & Transmission
Posting this in response to a question.
Who would like to see Allan Staniforth write a new book covering the use of motorcyle engines in racecars etc. Utilising mini differentials / modern
technology like Quaife etc.
If there is a huge response I'll pester Allan on this!

i think its the general concensus that we'd rather have a book that gave details of ideas on how best to design, build a middie and what options
are available for transmission, both chain driven from bike or transaxle from a car donor i suspect would be ideal..

Great Idea Rob,
I'd like something that goes really in deept and more hands on.... not just: Make bearing blocks, slap a can on the diff to keep the oil in,
bolt the sproket were the ring gear was and you're done !...
I'll probably be a bit late for my build, but a welcome addition to my library for a source of alternatives and insight.

Inclined to agree with Ned...
If the topic in question can fill a book...great go for it...
But, one of greater scope, more middy engineering in general would be better IMO
Ironically, there are few here who could contribute too, no doubt....

'twas Mr. Staniforth who first interested me in suspension (Competition Car Suspension).

Hi Rob,
I think it's a good idea!
I've been meaning to build something similar for a while now with the GSX 750 R WP motor I've got lying around!!
A decent, in depth, up to date book by the main man, Mr S. would probably give me the kick I need.

This is a topic of utmost interest to me. I would buy that book in a heartbeat.
It would be fun to follow along on a complete build. Of greatest interest to me would be driveline issues.

good idea about the book btw, i was thinking how technical it would be though as most car design fundamentals apply to both front a rear engined cars
which has been covers already in staniforths publications, but he could be more specific in the formulars etc rather than generalising all the time,
would be interesting. a good subject may also be on cockpit engineering, and getting the most out of the space available, since in a middy you tend to
be cramped in between and engine and a windscreen and crumple zones (unless you want a unauthodox- read 'ugly' design)

As someone said above, if he writes it, I'll buy it. The design and building of a bike engined racecar is very topical and I'm sure the
book would be very popular.

A new edition of the High Speed/Low Cost book including additional text and pics about the motorcycle installations would be excellent. Put me down

i would like him to do one with the same format as the race and rally book but with out the rally!
i think more coverage on home builders like the monopin and megapin omag etc, which i found facinating,and have lots and lots and lots of pictures!!
you can never have to many!
dont think it needs to be bike engine spacific just detailed info on home design and build and maybee a couple of pro builds like gould for
contrast.
he will sell shed loads and make us all very happy!

More specific info would be good... start with general stuff - basic principles of fitting bike engines in a car, typical problems (clutches, etc),
gearing, and so on.
Follow this with chapters relating to specific engines (or specific manufacturers), how they are mounted, how to couple to the drive shaft, cooling
systems and wiring.
Finally, a chapter on the differences in driving technique would be a major bonus.
I'd probably buy a copy, for 'future enhancements'!

Note: I have spoken to Allan on this topic, he has responded by saying that had he been a little younger he might have been tempted. However, being in
his 80's now he wants to concentrate on enjoying what time he has left on racing.
If you past you suggestions for content to me I might consider putting something together myself
