ive used a 2003 mx5 rear diff on my chriss gibbs locost ive had to re,design the rear end of the car though to make this work ive fitted a 2008 gsxr 1000 bike engine to it (its totaly mental of the mark i think the diff is a 4.1 ratio it just smokes the rear tyres) the only problem is the prop shaft flange on the diff is offset to the right so your propshaft wont run central down the trans tunnel it will still work for your build though. if you need pics on how ive done this i can e mail you some!

Hi, my car has the MK1 MX-5/Eunos 1600cc engine (with standard fuel injection etc....) and 5 speed gearbox. This is coupled to the usual Escort live axle etc....

It's a lovely engine and really practical. It's about 120bhp and still makes for a very fast car - mine weighs about 550kg.

Check out my photo archive if you need more or U2U me etc....

Most certainly, yes.

Here's the drivetrain assembly with the body un-bolted; Linky 1

And here's a quick link to a finished Miata(MX5)/Seven project;
Linky 2

There are other examples of Sevens based on MX5s on that site (the Americans call the MX5 the "Miata" ).

The Haynes is a very suitable chassis for the MX5 running gear, we are just finishing the parts to direct fit them into the chassis, they have been done in conjunction with Matt, who's build can be found here http://www.mx5-locost.co.uk/

Kind regards

John

The 1.8 puts down around 125hp(ish) and doesn't respond well to N/A tuning. However, it loves a bit of forced induction, and there are many kits available on the market to take your 1.8 up to anywhere between 180 and 350hp very easily (or more if you want to live on the edge...)
