type 9 5 speed

Hi, I'm looking for a fairly cheap type 9 5 speed gearbox for my 1600 x flow as I guess loads of people are,
I thought I would ask on here as there might be a fellow locoster with one tucked away somewhere.
I have the chance of a sierra mt75 but it looks so much larger than the type 9 and a lot more mods would be needed I should think so advice as well would be gratefully received.
Thanks Mike

I am in southampton too and I have a partial type 9. It has been taken apart in the middle, needs bolting back together and would suggest getting it checked out at a gearbox place but its an option if you want in.

£35 due to condition.

Nothing is missing I don't think. I've had the top plate off to check the condition. All the gears look clean and good.

Mike - cannot help with parts but I swapped the standard Escort 4 speed for a type 9 a few years ago and can offer advice. Main issue is that the type 9 is 110mm longer and you need a new/altered prop shaft both shorter and different output shaft splines. The gearbox centre mounting is in a different position and I needed a new plate to support it but no other chassis mods. Westfield do a proper mount for it from their spares section. You need a clutch plate from a Sierra 1600 as the splines are right for the type 9 input shaft but it is the same diameter as the Escort so keep the Escort cover. If you have a mechanical speedo - need a 90 degree for the output.

Thanks for all the input I think I will have to wait a while before I decide what to do, finances and time being the major factors.
cp13 I could give £30 for your gearbox just so I could play with it. Overhaul kits cost a fortune.
Thanks again Mike
