Driving days / track experience

Hi,

One of the ladies at work has asked me if there are any suitable "track days" for her husbands 50th.

Most common are those "packages" that are around £250 for 1/2 a lap in a Ferrari or something.

Anyone any suggestions as to a good day when you don't need your own car and will come away with something more than you'd get if you bought one of these "packages".

Cheers,

Pat...

fantastic, but you will need a hefty wallet.

I tried a red letter day, a few laps in a restricted formula ford cost £150, Palmer motorsports encourage you to go as fast as possible, as many spins as you like !

I did the Palmer Motorsport Sensation a couple of years ago, even came away with a fastest lap!

It was a fantastic day with the instructors encouraging you to go as fast as you can. Loads of run off so felt safe too.

My work paid for it as part of a prize for being FAB! lol
Even gave me the day off work to do it!

Am off to Rockingham tomorrow, "playing" in various Mazdas. One of them will be a race spec RX8.

Gonna be LOTS of fun!

Bought my son one from "index" 2 birthdays back, single seater day, i was a bit sceptical as he races stock hatch and thought he may find it a bit too restrictive (rev limits ect) he loved every minute of it and said it was worth every penny so someone with little or no on track experience i think would find it a great day out, he went too silverstone but had the choice of several in the envelope...

Update on Mazda Zoom-Zoom day...

Was a fantastic day, however, 2 laps in a Mazda 3 (to learn the circuit) were followed by only 3 laps in the race RX8. Wasn't long enough, but it was FREE!
They weren't timed laps but I reckon I could've lapped as quick or quicker in my Midtec.

I did a rally driving course a while back - fantastic experience.

http://www.gorallyschool.co.uk/default.asp

Strangely enough very few people get out of second gear / 30 mph but amazing fun. The track is tight and there is a load to take in. Instructors took us round at the end - phew, unbelievable. They taught us to use handbrake in turns etc then never even touched th ebrakes themselves!

They were developing the Ford Puma rally car in the garage - top secret at the time. And also the simonites rally car was in for work.

I have to suggest the palmer motorsport day as well. You get to drive a load of cars as fast as they can go with an instructor yelling faster faster down your ear. I got fastest lap in the palmer jaguar north circuit if anyone wants to know

I agree with the Palmersport day, I got fastest lap in the race Clio. Came 2nd overall out of 90 drivers. Would've won it too, if I hadn't been held up through the wobbly bits in the VX220. Just needed to knock 1 second off my lap!
