Super Spec or Viento

Hi there, New boy on the forum, just wanted to ask for the experience of some of you builders out there..

I want to build a seven powered by the ubiquitous ford sierra 2.0 cosworth turbo engine, and have narrowed my choice down to these 2 (in the abscence of further info which I now seek here)..

Viento is my 1st choice so far, but the price is well up on a comprehensive super spec kit... And there are less other parts to find..

Main issue... how much extra will i need to spend, over and above the Harrogate special offer on the Viento? the pricing on the website seems muddled when you look at the contents of the harrogate offer..

Looking forward to your advice

Hi
I would (if i could afford it) the Viento, i have looked at this car, spoke to Grant and the others at Luego and there very helpful,
I watched the velocity from which kit being built by Kevin Seal (who also built a second for Luego) and he spoke highly of the kit quality.
As for the SSpec, dont be fooled into thinking everything that is supplied will make a decent car, it wont, some things which are supplied will need upgrading very soon/or imediatly with higher spec parts, (shocks to name one).
I have a 2b which cost 3k+ in kit form and i recon i spent another 1,5k (conservative figure) to get it to sva,
I will be at Harrogate all weekend and would be happy to help with any questions you may have, there will also be several Sspec cars there,#Im happy with my car, but comprehensive kit, may not be as comprehensive as you may think

HTH
Mitch
ps also look at the Robinhood owners site for more info on the SSpec issues

My velocity with an XE engine and carbs etc, plus me shopping around for the cheapest deal on decent kit such as Willans harnesses etc has cost me about £9,500 so far!

I would allow for 20-30% more than you think it will cost.

Some people have done it cheaper though.

Spoke to Grant at Luego this morning, and he was very helpful.

Am hopefully collecting my donor vehicle on friday, but then off to harrogate, so the strip will have to wait for a bit...

The car I have purchased is minus a rear diff and drive shafts, so I will be on the look out for an XR4x4 LSD and drive shafts soon...

It is also minus an interior which should make removal of the loom and mechanics a little easier..

Haven't made any final decisions on the chassis as yet, will see what harrogate brings... The Viento just looks to be the simplest for this particular engine and my size...

The quality appeals, and as I am expecting to be pulling around 350bhp from the motor as it progresses the extra strength has to be a good thing...

G3off that looks sweet, the wife had just decided that we had to get a black one so your pic was well timed...

What wheels are they as they set the car off really nicely..

Beautiful job, must make a lovely sound on those "mufflers"

you should be able to fit all the cossie bits into a velocity, as it's been done in an mk indy before.

your choice of course, some think the viento is a bit too big and loses the proportions and point of the car being light and nippy, but it is good for fat boys and v8 lovers

Another problem is my size...

I am 6'5" and 16.5 stone....

I can fit them in most chassis' but then can I get in... kinda important

Theres my lovely 77,000 mile Cosworth Engine...

20 year old kid paid £6000 for the car and £2200 for 3rd party insurance... He owned it 16 days before he wrote it off...

That pic is post write off, its barely damaged really... needs a shell and a few panels is all... oh and the interior and all the bits he has already sold...

Including the diff :sob:

I am almost certain that the viento is the kit for me so far...

The MNR VortX RT looks appealing as well, and may be closer to my budget, but we will see what Luego come up with at the weekend..

So far with my sums, the Viento is £1000 over my initial budget and the MNR (RT+) is £400 under budget... I can raise the additonal cash for the Viento without too many problems tho so it doesnt wipe it out by any means...

The wife wants me to spend the extra as she likes the look of the Viento slightly better...

I like both for different reasons...

Arrrgghhh this is turning out to be the hardest decision of my life...

Hopefully Harrogate will give me a clear steer in one direction...

I must stay away from the other manufacturers... LOL

If you visit Luego's web site they have put their show offer price on it.
Luego cars

If you interested in the Vortx and Viento
Why not the Velocity? very similiar to the Viento but the size of the Vortx and would work out a lot cheaper.

The VortX is good for my height, not sure about the Velocity, but tomorrow will tell me...

I have been in touch with Grant, and he has done me a good price on a FULL kit... ie all the build packs... 1 off for the show....

I wont disclose it here tho

I haven't done any negotiating with Marc N yet, but the VortX is already under my budget...

The Viento appeals more as it just LOOKS so purposeful, the extra width makes it look lower, yes it may be heavier, but with 350bhp of turbo nutter b'stard under the right foot thats not always a bad thing

No reflection on the product or Grant who is truely a superb guy, but I went for the MNR VortX RT+

If I decide on a V8 next then the Viento will be the one...

Thanks Grant for your time, and the deal you put together for me, you are a credit to the industry..
