BEC Wanted

Hi after great deliberation and taking advise I have decided to take the plunge and purchase a BEC, I have looked at a few, but keep missing them, obviously in great demand.

So is there any out there, must be of good build and proven reliability.

A quick look on pistonheads revealed a few!
STM Phoenix r1,
Fury class f RGB (a possibility to get on road)
R1 vortx
And the one I'd look at is the westy with the blown blade motor! Them mega blades are nice

You could easily get a 919 blade from Andy bates in that westy for under £1k and half a days work

Ooh that westfield is nice and if it was closer, I would be considering it for myself and I have a spare engine in the garage that needs a bit of tlc within the gearbox.

There's a couple on PH in the Bike Powered Cars section

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bike-powered-cars/cars

The MNR looks good and the MK is well priced.

I think you will find very favourable reports on MNR.

I went to see them and very nearly bought a kit, but plans changed as my funds moved about so to speak. In all honesty I'd recommend them in terms of helpfulness and quality, the chassis is beautifully built, and the bodywork is first rate, but can't personally comment on how the cars drive.

The owners mark n chris are really decent blokes to deal with and I'm sure you'd have no problem getting spares or help. They come from a racing background and so I believe the cars handle really well.

That's great thanks, I will have a look at there web pages and do some research, they look a nice car. and the R1 engine is appealing... I have a friend who is R1 bike mad and he swears by them.

Its one of the early carbed r1's though I think. I had a 5jj r1 in a stripped out mnr and it was ok performance wise. The later 2004-2006 motors are a big step up in performance!

The MNR is nice.
Nothing wrong with the carbed R1 engines
They have more than enough grunt to make you grin.

It's worth mentioning that is an outboard MNR.
Although registered in 2007 the kit is probably a fair bit older.
Still looks really good though.

Outboard?

Outboard means the front shocks are placed outside the chassis (like Westfield and Caterham) - and inboard means they are inside operated by pushrods (like the MK Indy-R and newer MNRs).

this thread has some info ref Inboard/Outboard on it as well as some hi res pics of an outboard MNR Vortx. Seems that outboard kits were still available in '07 so kit is about the right age.

What does anyone think of the MNR Vortx with the R1 engine on bike powered cars on Pistonheads, looks tempting?

That's the 'outboard' MNR we have been talking about - looks like a cracker to me - if I was in the market for a used BEC I'd defo have a look. Only way to know is get yerself over the border!

But my opinion is worth little - ask Chris or Mark at MNR if they know of it's history.

And you're about an hour from MNR themselves, so another plus point
