Thieving b****rds...
Well it happened again...
Had the tin top broken into again last night. Took the radio and some imported CDs, that aren't produced anymore...
They shoved a screwdriver through the door next to the barrel and popped the door release...
How do you fix that? New door? New locks and some welding? Any have any ideas of cost of lock set for a Pug 306?
Any help'd be appreciated...

If it needs bodywork doing to repair the screwdriver damage i'd de-lock it while you at it, Saves it happening again, and the cost of a set of
door locks!
I'm presuming it was the Mfr's Head unit, ppl are even knicking them these days!

Usually you can press out the damage to the door lock hole with a couple of suitable large washer and a bolt

Ta for the quick reply guys.
Will try the big bolt thing to press out bodywork. Might even get out my old ding hammer and dollys!
Just a little confused though. If I de-lock it how do I get in the car? Are there specialist kits? Might sound stupid...

Oh yeah and it wasn't the Mnfr's unit. It was a cheapy Kenwood thing but had no face on it anyway!! They will nick anything...
I'm thinking I'm going to completely blank out the head unit hole and fit a small amp and volume control behind the dash with a little
mini jack input to plug in the ipod or handheld radio. Might stop them from breaking in!
Plus, I might actually leave the glove box open to show that there's nothing in there!
They really are scum...

Depends on how the locks work now, If its got remote central locking then it should just be a case of doing away with the lock itself.
If not, its a case fitting actuators to the doors and an alarm to operate them, £110 for a Cat1 alarm if you can fit it yourself and £10 or less for
each of the actuators.
Then it'd be alarmed as well!

DeLocking can be done for about £50 a door including welding a plate inside to cover the lock hole and a door respray.
Get both doors done and just leave the boot lock. That way you can still get in if the battery goes flat. This assumes you have an alarm with remote
central locking.

I've considered emptying my glovebox and leaving it open just to show the face, or anything valuable isn't in there. But its so
impractical.
If you can make it obvious from the outside that there is nothing valuable inside, you should avoid smash and grabs.
But from past experience even if they just see a branded head unit without the face they will get it anyway and check the usual places: Glovebox,
under seat etc...
Best bet is a good alarm. (Or a booby trapped head unit release?) Ideas?

Oh and Chris, Scour ebay for your cd's if they are rare. Or even your radio (maybe its got a scratch you would recognise)
They may try and sell them on there, may even wait a week or two if they are clever...
If they do, and your sure inform the police, or if your inclined buy it, get their address, and well your imagination is the limit!

deadlocks on my 406 prevent the door being unlocked or opened without the button on the key, and yes, it works. If they smash a window, they have to
climb in and out of it, which might limit how much they get away with. Only problem is if you get a flat battery, its harder to get in.
Beware! Bourettes is binfectious.

Tint on the windows makes it easier.
Centre punch on the outside corner breaks the glass which sticks to the film and can be lifted out in one almost silently.
Visible sensors and the red LED is probably the best deterrant, but if they want in, it won't make any difference.
Get a lot through Court who do it just for the 'ell of it.

Thanks for that guys.
Considering getting a Cat 1 Alarm with remote central locking and then leaving the boot lock in place as a few have suggested.
The main worry is that the car has never had central locking and no alarm fitted, so where's the best place (cheapest?) to get them?
This'd save me having to carry two keys for the car on my main key ring too... Which is growing by the day with the new job...
The other little worry is getting a proper paint match on the doors. I can deal with the welding and filling and sanding, just never been very good
with the colour matching...

I got a Toad ai606 off a dealer on Ebay, think it was about £120 inc postage etc, came with all the instructions etc
maybe OTT for what you require but not2 expencive either really, considering there about £350 fitted.
A Dual zone Microwave Sencor might be a good idea as well, then if somebody is looking into the car,
or is close enough to smash the window it starts chirping at them as a warning.

I de-locked my austin metro (yes I know!) with a microscan kit (I think) from Demon Tweeks which cost about a ton. Very easy to do, disconected the
lock barrels and attached solenoids to the rod which was attached to the barrel. I delocked all the doors including the boot. left the barrels in
because the twocers wouldn't know they didn't work. I hid one solenoid to open car if key fob went flat and also rigged one of the doors
with a cable if the cars battery went flat.
Short of accidently wiring a power cap to the body work there aint much better (thats legal) you can do.

Pug 306 door lock set (not the whole car, so you will have a different key) is about £27.00+vat, an order to number set is about £40.00 but take at
least 14 days to arrive.
The lock apperture should be quite easy to repair, at worst you may need to weld a tear.
Make sure you get the locks the right way around (handed L&R), the end tangs are white on the right and green for the left (check - memory of a
goldfish)
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Just ordered a central locking kit and am going to fit a blanking plate to the head unit hole with an amp and mini jack mounted behind it. This should
allow me to plug the iPod in for some tunes.
I'm also going to completely remove and blank out the locks for the front two doors. Just zapped up some new laser cut plates to cover the holes
at work today. I love this new job! So many gadgets at my disposal!
@ MKIndy7 - Just wondering how the Toad alarm sticker looks? And the warning LED? I'm considering sticking a few Toad stickers in the windows
and then mounting a Toad LED on the dash? A little more off putting for the thief? Check out the links below mate...

Could call the ultimate bluff and have a faceplate cover you put on with ragged out chopped wires on it! lol
Mines on a project car I haven't finished yet, but its all wired up and tested, works a treat!.
From what I remember the stickers look about right, the L.E.D might be a little dimmer as the real one is a tri colour rather than ultra bright and
narrow beam like the ebay one looks.

What I meant about the dead locks was would they prevent this sort of break-in ie does levering up the stalk with a screwdriver release the dead locks
- if so they don't seem to be very effective.
