VIN Number stamp
I have been trying to sort out a VIN number with my chassis and am dealing with Peterborough local office.
I have got a letter back with my VIN number on and it says i need to get it stamped on the chassis by a garage who needs to then sign and stamp the
letter. Question is how do i get this done when the car cant be driven? 
I can make myself a plate to attach to the chassis, and stamp the chassis myself, but the letter says it needs to be authenticated by a local garage
or dealer....

Hi David,
Can you not nip down to the pre arranged garage , get a guy to nip back check it out then whip back togarage and get the necessary papers? 
or am I missing something here?

needs to be stamped with MOT embossing stamp, not used now computer printed ones are issued.
i,d pop down your local friendly MOT station and have words

I can't say I've heard of anyone else having this issue. What does it have to do with a garage? I thought that's what the dvla
inspection was for.

Hi, just stamp the chassis & attach your plate. Authentification will be done when DVLA inspection done, you will be fine.

I am sure that if you contact your local police they will stamp a chassis number in for you.

I got a nice shiny little plate engraved (heavily) which I will weld on the chassis

Thanks for the replies gents.
I will get an engraved plate made up at work.
Do you think stamping the number into the floor will be ok for the second number? Its riveted and glued on, no way its coming off wihtout being
destroyed... I am just not too keen on stamping the number into one of the chassis tubes as it will more than likely make a mess of the tube...

I don't think the floor would be regarded as a permanent part of the car. As long as one of the plates is welded on I think it is ok (I
certainly hope so)

I got one those letters. I agreed with my local office that I could get the work done at a local engineering company instead, as long as they stamped
the form.
Fortunately I happen to work for a local engineering company.

I just used a stick on engraved plate
lets face it whatevers used we could most likely remove it change it make it look like it was never there in 10 mins anyway

this sounds like complete nonsensical bo77ocks - what difference does it make who stampes the chassis?
Buy MMart 4 mm punches, grind away some paint on one of the tube, stamp away then a coat of laquer - job done.

Thanks guys.
Just spoken to the DVLA man. He said the chassis should be stamped by a garage and then the paperwork signed by them to say its been done. I will have
a word around the local garages when I get home to see if anyone is willing to just check the number for me and sign off to say its OK.
As for stamping into the floor for the 'permanent' number, he said it was fine
