MOT Requirements

When registering my Indy last year after SVA I was told that I didn't need an MOT. I was expecting the tax reminder a couple of weeks ago and got the car MOTed.

The tax reminder had arrived when I got home after the MOT - it didn't ask for an MOT in the list of requirements. I didn't show the MOT at the post office when paying for the tax, but took it just in case.

I appreciate that the DVLA uses the tax renewal as a check that the vehicle has an MOT, it just seems a bit strange that it wasn't checked on the Indy unless their records start the 3 year rule from registration rather than manufacture of the donor / major items.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Cheers,

Colin

No - it has an age related plate.

The MOT was not needed for initial registration, which I think is being referred to in the other thread. I was expecting that I would need one every year after though, hence my initial post. I think that the police may assume that it needs an MOT based on the age related plate.

Timf,

I can't see the year of manufacture on the V5 just the date of registration.

In the notes at the top it states:
1 Rebuilt - made from parts.
2 SVA Cert issued 27 09 2002 Emmission Limit % CO 3.5; HC 0.12

Maybe they are taking it from the registration date.

Anyone else experienced similar?

I'm wondering whether I can save the cost of an MOT next year.

in one of this months kit car mags - can't remeber which - it says that under new regs although your car has an age related plate it will NOT require an MOT for 3 years from first registration post build.
