Ford steering joints

On the Sierras there is a triangulated clamp on one of the joints, does this have to be a Ford part (the bar part)? I made up a temporary triangle shape from as piece of round tube and a hammer just to get the steering working. Will this be OK for the SVA or will that be an instant fail?

The tube actually looks OK and fits the clamp reasonably well.
