Wrong tie end rods?
Does anyone know the correct part numbers for AP Lockheed tie end rods for Cortina hubs?
I may have made a silly and purchased the wrong ones. I have an Escort steering rack so I bought Escort tie end rods but I've got Cortina front
uprights and I can't get the ends to fit. They seem to big to fit through the hole.
The boxes they came in have...
TA687 R51DK (on one)
TA687 R42CK (on the other)
Both have...
Ford Escort
Cortina Taunus
One end has 62 H105A on the underneath.
The other has 62 IL02A.
Both have 62 1-5 210 045 on the rubber.
The boxes tell one story the parts another.
Anyone know if I've wasted about £12?

You mention your steering rack - have you bought the tie rod ends to use as track rod ends? They should be used as top balljoints.

Erm... not sure 
The box says tie rod end (not tie end rod as I put before, oops) but they fit onto the end of the steering rack.
I've got transit thingys for the top ball joints and maxi ones for the bottom. I got those direct from Luego with the chassis so I'm pretty sure
they are ok and they seem to do the job.
I am looking for what I would under normal circumstances call "track rod ends" but I guessed that the "real" name was tie rod end. When I got 'em
from the spares place the picture in the parts book had a steering rack and then the two offending parts in the position at each end ofthe rack. The
guy who served me did say that the part numbers were the same which they may not be.
Any ideas?

Cortina track rod ends should fit as hubs are cortina MK3/4or5.
the only difference i've seen on escort track rod ends is thread onto the rack,this is a MK1/2 difference though.

So if I get this right, I use track rod ends on the steering rack AND as the top joint of the hub?
I have a Mk II Escort steering rack and a Mk IV Cortina steering rack. I have Mk IV Cortina hubs. So following this logic I can use the spare Cortina
steering racks' track rod ends as top joints on the hub?
Is this right?
Whilst on the subject, I need to replace a lower ball joint. Any part numbers out there?

DOH! x 1000000!
Whilst being bored here at work, I was explaining the offending items to a work bud and it just stuck me like a 1 ton weight!
Embarrassingly, I think I've got the front hubs on upside down and therefore on the wrong sides.
Just in case anyone else EVER has this problem and reads these posts for help...
The hole for the threaded bit (tech term) is tapered. The track rod ends (tie rod ends) will only fit from one side
Sorry for wasting the time of anyone who read this thread and to Bob + Chris who replied.

Thought it sounded strange,but you are not alone as its been done before.

Andyd mate,
I wonder if you could help me with identification of two parts I have?
One is some kind of "arm joint" a hinge if you will, towards the arm's centre.
The other appears to be some sort of split cushion affair, above the legs but below the torso, towards the "rear"
maybe I'm asking the wrong man!!!!

Oh yes. Always look out for old Don, or minicountryman1961 as hes also called.
Did you notice the well balanced and considered reply he gave simon rook (ea82T) for his sensible advice?

I'm not a mechanic, I'm a computer programmer. This car building lark ain't got a keyboard with it so I occasionally get confused.
Anyway we swapped them over last night and surprise! Everything fits
