HEEELP!!!!

Just been working in the garage this morning, & I think I have a big problem.
The clearance between the rear tyres & the rear links mounting brackets is minimal.
I,m very concerned that the tyre sidewalls will hit the bolt heads with possibly lethal consequences.
Just compare my attatched pic. with the pic. on page 76 of edition 2.
I,m using identical wheels,my trailing arms are 12" between centres & the axle is mk. 2 escort.
Any ideas? Rescued attachment Picture 025.jpg

Exactly how far away are the bolt heads compared to the tyres? The picture isnt that clear....
Remember that you dont need *that* much clearance, during hard cornering the majority of tyre sidewall flex will be at the bottom.
As Jasper says, the other option is to spec different offset wheels, to move them out in relation to the mounting face.
P.s. is the book example definately an Escort axle? Capri/Cortina ones are a lot wider.....

Cheers, Stu.

You could get some narrow spacers?

If you look at the pic on page 76, the edge of the tyres come no where near the mounting brackets. I dont mean when viewed from above,I mean from the side!!
In the book ,that set of trailing arms MUST be over 12" (a clue is the fact that the shock absorber is not vertical)
Does this matter??

Have you left off the brake drums?

brake drums are on ,the wheeloffset is ET 19,EVERYTHING is standard "book"
I can't be the only one with this problem.
To answer stu16, the actual clearance is approx.5mm.
If I lengthen the trailing arms, perhaps making them adjustable, so that the tyre clears the brackets completely( & in the process have the shocker on a slight angle) will this affect anything else?
Are ever-one else,s shockers perfectly upright?

I have the same problem!! at the moment ive got citroen bx wheels fitted (just for mobility) and they are very close to the mounting bolts, as i want to fit taller & wider wheels it looks like i will have to fit the cortina axle. wheel spacers are availible but only go up to 1 inch which still may not give me enough room for cosworth wheels. I know the wheel rolling radius will be the same its the width thats the problem.
good luck phil.....
