Another question re shocks

Bought a pair of secondhand spax v cheap a while ago. They are a too long to fit the bracket to the top of the axel bracket, the have a compressed lenght of 10.5 in, just .5 longer than recommended but they seem way too long. Presumably I just relocate the bracket down the side of the axel bracket to give me more room.

Will the shocks compress much when they are fully fitted? in which case anybody know by how much roughly as I want to make my trailing arms horizontal, and I'm having trouble getting my head around which bit to measure up first.

Confused? So am I....

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!
