Ford ka red brown gunge

Hi guys,

a friend has just got out to her car and found red/brown gunge (she might mean a viscous liquid) over her clutch pedal.

Diagnosis?

Any mechanical fluid possibilities? Hydraulic m/c? Brake fluid? Powersteering fluid? Clutch m/c?

I know nothing about these cars!

The clutch master cylinder is located just above the clutch pedal under the dash so that might be a clue

Either, clutch fluid, but thats unlikely to be described as "red" (but not unknown), or, coolant from the heater matrix which would be red.

Try the sniff test. If is smells of rust it's probably heater matrix, if it smells of brake fluid then clutch cylinder, if you retch and throw up it's dogs egg.
