More reviews, great!!
Read some german reviews about a tyre that I know to be very good and they slagged it for poor life!
You can tell a lot about a tyre without needing a review....stick your thumbnail in it and see if it makes a mark that stays for a bit, if it does it
will grip well but wear out fast. If it has lots of fine grooves it will work well in the wet but crap in the dry, if it has big tread blocks and
fewer grooves the reverse applies.
There, now where are those round black things that fit on my wheels.
(PS I still have etched in my brain the quote from a rally driver that I used to service for (won quite a lot of road rallies incidentally) who
brilliantly said when asked what tyres he was using cos he was doing so well.....
"dunno, round black ones that I found down the garden" )

A lot of those "horror stories" could easily be down to tittish driving and mixing tyres.
If you put a good wet tyre on the front and a wide-blocked mainly dry tyre on the rear and drive it in the rain you're going to spin, it's
common sense.
As for tyres for our locost I think we'll stick with the 2 matching pairs that came on the sierra and see how it handles.
I can envisage 195/60 14s possibly being a bit weedy for 190bhp/220lbft though.
Is it possible to fit sierra rear disks under 13in alloys of any type?
Also, does anyone know what PCD and offset those nice 15in caterham multispoke wheels are?

Tyres...
Couldn't be bothered to read all the reviews, but have tried several different types on my cars. Always seem to come back to the Yokos,
particularly for the wet grip.
Just got some new ones (C-drive?) to replace the useless Avon ZV1s on my Focus, Worm A539s are better than new ZV1s in the wet!!!
For a locost use Yoko 21Rs, or 32Rs on 13" wheels

I've got Toyo Proxes T1-S on my Puma.
I seriously considered A539s too but the Toyos were quite a lot cheaper and had come highly recommended (not least by the damn fine totty at Goodwood
).
I'm not disappointed.
I think Jasper had some on his car at Donington last year and they certainly stuck well, but the soft rubber on the hot, fast track left them looking
a bit worse for wear. But that's to be expected.

13s will not fit over standard xr4x4 rear disc brakes (doh..).
The ten spoke 15" wheels on the C******m are old ford fitment (108pcd, ET19) so should fit a locost perfectly.

ive got 15 spokes on my avon .piccys in archive they are by bk racing 604(6.5x15)fitted with195/50/15 yokahama a539's .these are on a standard
sierra fitment.i think it was 108 pcd.

I've got Toyo Proxes and find them very good and very sticky when hot.
My car does skip round corners and lets go easily too, but I'm sure thats down to my driving rather than the tyres!!!!

Mixing Tires
If you want an extreme example of mixing tires, my Dad put Michelin radials on the front of the and bias ply tires on the back of the Renault he had
when I was a kid. One time on his way to work the Police stopped and checked him for drunk driving he was weaving so much.

The Zetec-S is way under-rated though. It's basically a Puma in a Fiesta body. Cracking little car.

I think it's just the fact he used Fiesta and performance driving in the same sentence.
Puma underneath or not, it's still a Fiesta bodyshell and a Fiesta driver at the wheel.
Not a good combination.
