18v Cordless Drill - Recommendations
Time has come to replace my current cordless drill which is dying of old age and too much abuse
Will be used for DIY Home use only as we have some heavier duty stuff that we use at work.
Looking for 18 volts and needs to have hammer action, Budget is around 100 quid
Favorite at the moment is a Makita 18v with 2 li-ion batteries
Any advice appreciated

I got the Makita and it's the best one I have owned. Very happy with it.

I just brought an 18v ryobi and while the drill is decent the chuck is not. Often the bit gets stuck and the chuck slips on it.

Dewalt or Makita. B&q have been running Makita 18v with 2 battery's for 90 for ages. We have 3 at work, but I do find the chuck to be a bit
crappy and slips when drilling metal if the drill bit jams.

I think that offer only includes ni-cad batteries, which tend to suffer from memory effects. The more modern battery technologies are a big
improvement.

I Have Makita with 3 nicads and cant fault it. Number your batteries so to load balance and only charge when flat.

I've been using the same dewalt combo for over 10 years, the chuck does need the odd tighten I must admit but for amount of use it's had
at work and home I think that's excellent. I've had 2 new non-branded cheap batteries within the last 3 years but still going strong!

Sounds good to me.
Makita and Bosch pro are my favorite brands to date, although thats only based on 'hobby/diy' use. My Ryobi belt sander is a nice piece of
kit but Ive never used a drill of theses.
I currently have a Dewalt, which was cracking good, but within a year the main bearings have developed a lot of play and the chuck as gone from good
to frequently coming loose all of a sudden, which feels terminal.
Also, dont expect a fantastic hammer action, and it will add weight.
