Another steering rack question

Hi all,

Does anyone know if any other Ford tie rods fit a MKII Escort rack?

I need the tie rods to be about 2cm longer if possible. I've looked at screw on extensions, but this would mean cutting the existing tie rods down, and theading further up the tie rod (if that makes sense).

Burtons do new tie rods, I was thinking Capri or Cortina tie rods???

Thanks

Graham

On a similar note, what is the lowest number of threads that you can safely have in the track rod end?

Anyone?

Does anyone have a cortina or capri rack that whey could measure the tie rods for me on?

If anyone has a rack, would they be willing to peel back the gaitor and take a photo of where the tie rod joins to the rack?

Please, pretty please.....

Cheers Viper,

Thought you were using a TVR rack?

Just had another thought, what about Sierra tie rods? I've looked in a Sierra Haynes bible and Cortina Haynes bible and they look like they have the same fitting, but no way of telling if the ball is the same, or the length

Cheers

This maybe a silly question, but what rack are you supposed to use with the Avon?
Have you done something different to warrant modification?

Dont just build it.....make it!

Tiger sell a MkII Escort rack, with longer tie rods for £95, plus £10 p&p, plus VAT!!!!!!!

Tie rods are a little over £7 from Burtons, and I got a MkII rack for £30.

Cheers

I'd go for around 1.5 x diameter.
I'd guess much less would be dangerous.
