Maybe usefull info for builders...... (steering)
After years of putting up with bump steer I decided to set about putting it right.
Now if you have a book(ish) chassis and used a escort rack like I did this bit of info may be useful.
A shortened (mk type) sierra rack drops straight in if you sit it on a piece of 1" box on top of the btm chassis rails height is bang on and in
my case bump steer as gone, and the big bonus, the sierra track rods are perfect length, I may have to cut maybe 1/2 inch of each one to screw the rod
ends on a tad farther but no cut n shut required on the track rods.
All done on a lazy Sunday morning, just need to paint it all back up now.

Here's my steering rack. A cut down Sierra item, on 1" x 1.5" (lying flat).

That looks better than modifying the escort rack , does the pinion shaft line up with the escort rack position exactly or does the downlink and its
position need altering also?

I guess that depends how much you narrow it by. Looking at Jon's photos, the pinion shaft is slightly nearer the centre of the car (1" -
1.5"?) which shouldn't make any difference to connecting to the rack.
Don't forget that if you have built a non MK chassis, the amount will vary as you want the steering joints (rack to arms) in a plane with the
pivot points of the wishbones, and parallel to the lower bones.
When I went to get my rack professionally shortened (the rack in pic was a bodge up so I could move around while building) the chap doing it (a local
kit manufacture (yes - he's very good)) had nothing nice to say about RC, and then gave me a lecture on bump steer, and how to correct it

Hi although it is perfectly possible to get a book chassis and westfields to have Less than 16 thou of bump steer with a STD ESCORT rack over a full
3" of suspension movment in bump and droop. It just needs to be moved into the right position.
