English axle diff vent???

Been told that there is a vent on my axle that is for the diff oil to vent when it gets hot but that it should be covered. 2 issues:

  • Is this actually a vent and should it be covered
  • Where do I get such a thing?

Yep - that's the vent alright it normally has a little cap on the top like a mushroom so that nothing can drop in... You'll need to fabricate something similar I would have thought. Maybe Burton Power could sell you a replacement?

Cheers

Thanks SeaBass. Don't suppose you have any pics of what it would look like to fabricate something from?

Cheers

Sorry for the crapy photo, but you can just about see it on the far left. Its a little black plastic cap, about the size of a long [screw] bottle lid.

I glued in a series landrover axle vent - these have a ball bearing that acts like a valve.
