zx9 carbs fuel pump position

I have just fitted zx9 carbs to mat zetec robinhood and was going to fit the fuel pump inside the engine bay before the carbs, will this be ok? or do they have to be fitted near the tank?

My pump is next to the tank but i have seen them next to the engine so i don't think it matters

Bike pumps are designed to push rather than pull so best bet would be at the rear under the tank. It'll work in the engine bay - just not so well.

I made a bracket up to bolt to the chassis and retained the original rubber mounting off the bike

I had mine under the bonnet to start with. It worked fine, but then it started to remain on where previously it pumped for a few seconds and switched off [I think there was an air leak somewhere].
I moved it under the tank, where it has been fine ever since.

As the pipe run feeding the pump is much shorter if mounted under the tank there is less chance of it pulling air in.
