MK plastic fuel tank

Has anyone have any problems with unleaded fuesl and MK's plastic fuel tanks? Seem to have a recurring problem with the fuel pipe and filter getting blocked with what looks like SNOT! Starting to think the unleaded fuel is reacting with the plastic tank. Whats your thoughts??

Thanks Kev

I had a problem with an ally tank when I used some instant gasket to seal round the fuel gauge sender. The fuel caused bits of it to come away from the gasket then it swelled up to about 50 times its usual size and blocked up the filter. It looked very like snot if that gives you any ideas

Think the tank would be from when the car was registered in 2003.

Just read through the old posts and it sound like there were a load of issues with plastic tanks a few years back. Seems up to yet I have been lucky its not pouring fuel all over the gravel!

Also several posts relating to sealing the sender unit in and excess sealer clogging the outlet pipe and filter. Maybe thats whats happened with mine?.

Plan 'A' Remove tank and flush out to see if theres any more 'SNOT' floating around. Hopefully that will sort things.
Plan 'B' New ali / stainless tank.

Thanks for the replies.

Kev

The problem was some welding rods were supplied incorrectly - therefore they didn't weld correctly and people had leaks. If yours isn't leaking now its probably fine.

Snot is often due to people using silcone to seal things. Silicone and fuel don't mix - causing 'snot'. Has someone used silicone on the tank, perhaps to seal up a fuel sender?

I am pretty sure thats what the problem is, a quick flush through and all will hopefully be fine.

What should you use to seal the sender in with?

Kev
