Locost 7 unfinished project

For sale is my unfinished project which has sat in my garage the last few years. I've finally decided I'm unlikely to ever finish it, so it's time to let it go. This has cost me over 10k over the years to get to it's current state. I'd estimate you could get it up and running and tested for around £1000-1500. Yes I’ve deliberated hard and no I don’t have the time or inclination to do it myself anymore. It was originally intended as a track orientated but road worthy car. It could also make a good trackday car if you didn't want to test and road register it.

Car spec is:
Powder coated home built locost book based chassis with additional triangulation as per some of the aussie mods, rollbar with backstays, fully welded
Sierra track suspension: GTS dedion rear end, mnr rosejointed front wishbones with turnbuckle top adjusters
Ally sides and rear panel (still with protective film on), red grp scuttle, bonnet, nose, black wings front and rear
fibreglass r500 style seats, not padded or upholstered but mounted on adjustable runners
carbon faced fibreglass dash backed with ply for rigidity
bias adjustable pedal box
hydraulic clutch with concentric slave cylinder, ally adapter bellhousing
type9 box, professionally made propshaft with sierra dif and shafts
led rear lights, bike style front indicators
racetech gauges with SPA tacho with inset digital speedo and shiftlights
polo radiator with samco hosing and ally joiners
vauxhall xe engine built up from stripped, rebored and dipped block:
88mm oversize high compression pistons with thicker laminated headgaket to reduce compression slightly
steel rods, reground crank, balanced with lightweight steel flywheel and twin plate sintered clutch
steel oil pump gear, remote filter with take off plate, shallow westfield wet sump and pickup
head rebuilt with double valve springs and uprated cam, vernier pulleys fitted and timed
direct to head throttle bodies with dta ecu, higher flow rate bosch injectors fitted, fully mapped on rolling road with printout 220bhp, 169lbft
small daihatsu type alternator fitted and working
custom wiring loom built with complete wiring diagram plus all ecu loom and sensors of course
redtop gel battery
baffled ally fuel tank with swirl pot and dual pumps (low pressure from tank to pot and high pressure to fuel rail) both with filters, braided hoses and fittings, pressure regualtor and return lines etc.
larger hispec ally 4 pot from calipers, sierra rear disks
cortina front uprights
escort rack with ally clamps and track rod extenders, sierra column and boss with small mountey steering wheel
simpsons custom 4-2-1 matched length stainless exhaust with largest silencer that would fit inc lambda boss.
caterham minilight wheels with yoko a539 tyres

bad bits:
engine has not run up for 2-3 years and believe it had developed a sticky oil pressure relief valve which would need checking prior to running engine up again
battery condition will have deteriorated, might be usable again if plugged in to an optimate or just fit a new battery
there is no headertank, it was removed and put on a friends car which was subsequently sold
there is a full tank of old superplus fuel in the tank that'd probably need draining and replacing or mix with superplus to get the octane up and stick it in your tintop!

jobs to get it roadworthy for test when last worked on:
trims and edging all over for sva/esva/iva whatever it's now called
speedo/magnets on propshaft needed sorting/configuring
front indicators need extensions and possibly height altering
one front wing sill needs fitting
needs a grill
engine map might need altering for emissions, this wasn't considered when it was mapped

You could get it up and running very cheaply as a track car or for a little more work to test it, it would make a very fast road car.
I’m looking for £3200ono and am in no real rush to sell but interested parties can contact me and come and view and I would consider sensible offers. It’d be worth more in parts but I don’t really want to break it. Located in Guildford, GU2.
I have other parts, spares, documents, knowledge etc that will be passed on to the future owner.

Well if you think it's too cheap what should I be asking for it? It's only ever worth what someone is prepared to pay for it! It's a lot of parts but huge hassle to split it and mostly just labour to get it going, then the task of getting it iva'd.

I was basing my price on a road registered car minus the cost I estimate it'd take to get it on the road. Yes it's a good spec but it'll only ever be a locost, it'll never demand the residual of a westifeld or caterham. If it takes me a couple of months and £1500 to get it road registered and sell it, I won't make a lot more money and it'll take time and hassle so selling as is isn't going to lose me much money over finishing it, if I had the inclicnation to do so?

I think you've pitched it right to be honest but for that spec of car, assuming it's well put together you should sell at very close to your asking price. You might sell it at £4k but you might wait 12months to do so.

For what its worth Ned I think your on the money with out breaking it. Breaking the engine / box / bods and ecu seperate may well do better for you.

There isnt a great deal of money about and those that have want a bargain.

A locost no matter how well made will allways make less than an mk.

I see the value of mine as around £3k

I reckon about 6K when registered with that spec regardless of being 'only' a Locost. So 4K is more like it......in my opinion.

car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
