Help - Mondeo TDCI Fault Codes

My 2006 2.2 TDCI was running fine.

I have had the Flashing Glow plug light problem for some time. Although it only comes on now and then, It then goes in to Limp Home mode, and clears after switching off and restarting the engine.

Now I have three codes up
P0409 egr sensor A circuit
P0406 egr sensor A circuit High
P0404 egr flow ckt range / performance

I strongly suspect he EGR valve. (Not difficult really)
I have had it off yesterday and given it a thorough clean.
It wasnt bunged up, and was relatively clear ie less than 5% obstructed (if that).
Until I cleaned it, I only had the heater light problem. now I have the other codes, that come back even if I clear them.

My dilemma is simple the EGR Valve is £240 (more from Ford)
Its the most expensive one with the electronic motor in it.

Further more I need to make a long journey on Friday.

The part is a 15 min job to change, and easy to do. But will I come to any harm ignoring it, or should I bite the bullet in view of the forthcoming long journey.

I dont have a lot of time to decide.

I am thinking of change the part anyway, but at £240 its a lot, and if its not that I may not be able to afford to put it in a garage...

Someone please point me in the right direction before I dissapear up me own B*m

1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Sounds like either the electrical part of EGR valve or the related electrical wiring
With Fords the wiring tends to be OK so my moneys is on the valve.

What some people do is fit a new EGR valve and blank off the egr port that way the new valve stays clean --- of course these days it has to be not visible or it is an MOT fail.

I have a similar car and had the same faults. I took off the EGR and cleaned it; made no difference. The fault on mine eventually proved to be a kinked turbo hose following clutch replacement

I have two of the 2.2 mondeo st at work. Without fail the EGR valve clogs every 25-30000 miles. Out service department just replaces the valve, although a good clean should sort it out.
