Speeding : Take the points or do the course ?

"It's a fair cop guv...."

Just got the dreaded letter saying I've been caught speeding. 48 in a 40 limit. No arguments: coming home after a rubbish long day at work, stretch of A5 I use every day, not concentrating*, speed drifted up and sailed straight past a coppa and his big white van.

But the question is, do I take the 3 points and £60 fine or the no points and £90 “speed awareness” course ?

( * if their camera could detect brain activity, or just the glazed look in my eyes, then they would have been quite right in charging me with driving without due care )

The course - they're actually not nearly as bad as you imagine they're going to be (not something you'd really do for fun mind you!)

If you think your insurance won't go up £30 over 3 years and you won't get any more points then take the points n fine.

The course is boring but u can't really fail it.

Truck speed limit is 40 in a 50 n use 3rd gear when doing 30 mph

My insurance went up £200 a year for 3 points.

Answer ye question?

The course, obviously, on a cost basis alone. If you take the points, your insurance being hit for the next 5 years is likely to add up to quite a substantial amount.

Frankly I'm disgusted. Hangings too good for you (etc)! A year of self-flagellation is the only thing that MIGHT cleanse your despicable soul!

(£90 and course would be my preferred option).

As already said, take points, fine, course and anything else that will teach you a lesson you public menace

I feel you should also do at least 100 days community service as well! Maybe be made to help someone on here build a kit car or something for your sins?

I did the course and found it very useful, actually. I was grateful though as i didn't really deserve to have been offered it.

I did the course lasy year its a doddle.Depends on how many points youve already got.
It was the same price as the point eg £60 things must have changed.
The course was quite funny as there were a couple of very strange people on it and the whole room was laughing at one stage.

Do the course but make sure you go dressed as The Stig and keep your visor down

All the best people have been on these courses, I've been on both the speed awareness and the hazard awareness courses

Do the course, first off so your insurance doesn't go up.

I found it quite interesting, for example the actual difference in journey time between doing 30 and 35 is 17 seconds per mile (wow you're getting there so much faster huh?)

Having managed 50 years with an unblemished licence, I got flashed last year, doing 35 in 40 zone. In-bloody-furiating!! So, I took the course. Deffo recommended - (i) no points, and (ii) you don't have to tell you insurer. That's a bonus, but bear in mind - don't get caught again!!
