Alfa to sell re-badged/re-engined MX5's

and built in Japan so the first reliable Alfa?

Sounds very much like the Vx220/Elise relationship.

As long as they colaborate with alfa doing styling and jap doing build then it could be very good, god forbid they do it the other way round!

Totally agree with loggyboy, except that;

quote:

a roadster with a different engine and styling for Mazda

Does that mean potentially an Alfa powerplant rather than Mazda/Ford? I really hope not.

I would put money on it having an Alfa engine which isn't a bad thing these days.

This is brilliant news for Alfa as them not making a sports car is a bit perverse.

Was it ever a bad thing?

Sud / 33 flat 4, twin cam, V6?

Wiring and tin worm were what let down the Sud and 33. Having had a Sud and two 33's I can certainly vouch for the boxer engine and running gear

Why would you hope not? They make some great engines.

To echo the above, Alfa - brilliant engines and usually very pretty bodies. Shocking electrics, interior trim and rust resistance.

I had a few Alfa's. Really nice cars to drive and in general very, very good engines. With one exception: the 16V twinspark, which had bearings made of cheese and cambelts made from old stockings. Regarding interior trim, my 10 year old 147 was actually a much nicer place to be than the new (!) Renault that replaced it. Less rattles as wel

So this could either be a match made in heaven or another Arna....

Sounds like the best of both worlds to me.

What could possibly go wrong?!!!!

The MX5 has got a bit too girly for me. Adding a bit of Italian macho styling could be just the thing.
