what car should she get?

A girl friend of mine has an 03 Streetka that she loves ,but as she uses the car for work she could do with better fuel economy. It's worth c £2500

Suggestions for very economical not too boring cars, please

supposed to do mid-30's on that car?
So I guess a small diesel car or a smaller engined petrol.

That usually means French..........

Wife has an A1 s-line 1.6TDi
and I have to confess I drive it anytime
I can get away with it.

Does about 60mpg on open roads
and tax is £20.

Depends on what she wants, but I will point out that in short journey urban use small modern diesels with particulate fillers are a potential money pit and DERV costs more than petrol.

The big question is how much is she willing to spend this afternoon I watched an immaculate 58 plate 52,000 mile Micra struggle to make £1700 at auction on the other hand Kia and Hyundai have some very good deals on new small cars, Kia are doing 0% finance on a £7,500 Picanto with a 7 year warranty. Hyundai start at £6995. Both brands are now excellent quality wise and very nice to drive.

How the French are still making cars baffles me, Renualt is also wrecking havoc with Nissan's hither too bullet proof reliability record.

Should do a lot better than than we have a Rover 45 doing a shade over 40 mpg in suburban use, even our big Rovers return a real 31-32 mpg in urban use on petrol.
