MK1 Escort Wheel and tyre combo?

Hi all,

I have read through many forums now trying to work out what the best combination of wheels and tyres will be for my Mk1 and hope that I may be able to get some clarity from the experts on here.

I have a Mk1 Gt shell, with bubble arches, English axle with turrets and standard front struts.

I would like to fit minilites or similar but am getting rather confused with all the technical bits. What I have found so far is that many people have completely different setups.

So I am looking for a decent size wheel where the fronts and rears are the same size. I would also like the tyre to be reasonably accessible and not some obscure rare size. From what I have read there can be issues with offset affecting handing, bearings and tyre wear so advice on that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In advance,

Mike

Go to Turbosports forum for all things Escort
Escort offset tends to be positive and for bubble arch 7 to 8" on 13's
But Turbosports will have definitive answers

That very much depends on what you are aiming to do with the car, road, competition or track days?

What size brakes are you using?

Hi,

I knew there was something that i had forgotten to put in. I will be using rear cosworth calipers and standard front discs and calipers with a bias valve. The car is to be used for road driving with occasional track use. Thanks

You might struggle to fit those cossy calipers under 13" wheels, although the positive offset will work in your favour. You might have to fit 15's as a minimum. Ford forums will give you the definitive answer.

Usually with bubble arches fitted the rears are wider than the fronts 6" front 8 " rear or similar.

13" Compomotive split rim on a Mk1 (from ebay Advert where i bought them)
