Fuel sender not workinghi

Hi, my fuel sender doesn't work and only has only 2 wires which had bad connections so I cleaned them up with light sanding.
Sender still not working.
Took it out of the tank and still can't get it working.
I can't recall how to test the gauge with the wires by bypassing the sender?
Any ideas?

Time for a change!

i'd connect a potentiometer to the signal terminal to the gauge and the other wire to earth. I guess a dimmer switch should do?

I had the same problem last year, and one suggestion was to ground the feed and see if the gauge rises, if it does it looks like the unit it self may be capputt...
