Zetec 16v supercharger

Hello. well i've i'm new to the Board so i'll say hello to all. I don't think i'm quite in the same category as you guys as you all seem to be building your own cars, however i'm looking for some help information on supercharging my 1.8 zetec 16v thats currently in my mk6 escort.

my proposed shopping list..

mini cooper S eaton m45 supercharger (belt drive is the same as the ford anciliiary belt)
ferriday decomp plate
cosworth intercooler
megasquirt ecu kit

do u think this is feasible and can you see any problems?.. i for one won't be running huge boost to be honest i'm looking to get around the 160bhp mark if possible.. regards and thanks..

Nic

Hi Sounds like a nice project but I don't think you need to supercharge it to get 160bhp. This is probably possible with carbs, ecu and cams.

If you are going the supercharger route I think you might need to upgrade the injectors but this is not a hige expence.

I have heard of people using the zetec bottom end then bolting on a turbo head 8v. I am not sure how strong the top end of a zetec is, but as you say if you keep the boost fairly low it should be alright. If you do blow it up spares are now getting very cheap.

Good luck to you if you are going to go ahead.

You would need a touch more than carbs to get 160 bhp out of a 1.8 but not a lot imho.

130 spec cams ,carbs or boddies/ ecu and a bit of head work and balancing/ and setting up on the rolling road would get you there.

One of the reasons for slapping the 8 valve head on a zetec bottom end is to keep it all nice and simple..Exhaust/turbo/induction and ecu all hook up the same. The 16valve head has no dizzy ect...........

I have heard of over 400bhp with forced induction on a zetec Low presure boosting should give 180bhp+

Let us know how you get on with the project sounds good.I would like to know how you plan to mount the blower...?

Hi,
I'm not sure about the 1,8 liter, but the 2,0 runs without any isues on 12PSI boost (see the Powerworks/Cosworth instalation) giving about 225hp and 200lbft of torque. And this is the way I intend to go, although it might me quite expensive ($4750). But the kit is extremaly complete (with scharger and manifold, air-water intercooler, injectors, big throttle and even the oil filter relocation kit allowing easier fitment of oil cooler). I hope I'll skimm the bill by resigning from few of their options from the kit, like the reflashing of original Ford ECU (since I'll run the Emerald one), maybe the warranty but it still might be difficult. But the advantage is that the kit is really complete and since I have no means to fabricate the parts by myself (like manifold, brackets and so on), it might be the only option.
Good luck with your project, though...

hey thanks for the link simon.. do you think that would bolt straight onto the manifold of the zetec.. i was going to get some brackers made up and do all the piping myself but now i've seen that i'm interested.. I'm going to use a 2mm de-comp plate and i did think about the 8v head but to be honest the 16valve head will suffice for what i'm looking for. I got on to the guys in the stated about the 2.0 version they make for the ford focus but it just won't fit a escort zetec according to them.. but we'll see.. regards.. Nic

I looked into this option a while back (Eaton M45 + Zetec).

There is a kit made by Jackson Racing which has everything you need, it is possible to order parts of this separately so you can pick up a manifold and some brackets which will give you a bolt on solution and use these with the charger you already have,

Check JacksonRacing.com. Their site has changed since I viewed it (there used to be a complete price list for the components in the package, this has gone now) but I am sure they will still sell you the parts.

There is also fitting instructions which may give you some ideas.

Hope this helps,

Ed
