Dean,

I believe the Corolla GTS (RWD) is a good donor..but not easy to find.

Also, Steve is correct the Locost North America list is a good one for NA specific stuff.

You may also want to check out:
http://www.championmotorcars.com/
who are the "official" locost people.

They have a lot of info. on donors on there.

I'd say

Toyota Corolla (rwd with the GTS being the best)
Mazda RX-7
Chevrolet Chevette

are the ones that seem most suitable.

No free or also free Sierras for us.

the mx5 (miata) has also been suggested.

In the UK even 12 year old ones are 5k quid.

well I do have a merkur that I am parting out but I am taking the good bits for a IRS 7. pintos could work but a better cheap donor would be a mustang II (better rear axle then a pinto) if you built using pinto/mII stuff you could just buy some new uprights pretty easily. maybe a dana diff from a vette or a ford 7.5" diff from a tbird/cougar (for a irs) then there are other cars from across the pond you could use. on turboford.org there a few merkurs up for grabs cheap/free right now.
