Chain drive or Quaife PowerTec Gear Drive?

I'd like to build a BEC and Im doing my research into it. Ive come across the
Quaife PowerTec gear drive:

http://www.quaife.co.uk/Quaife-PowerTec-gear-drive-system

Which is priced around 975pounds.

Ive noticed some here have use a chain drive.

Whats the plus minus of each system? This Quaife looks pretty good.

Thanks for your reply.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

If you are going middy or rear engine, then chain diff is a cheaper option.
I have an xr4i 4 X4 lsd diff.

Hello Nitram, Thats one of the reasons why I asked. When I first did the research I saw the Quaife, then after spending a few hours reading everything here(almost) I saw your car and asked the question. Apart from price, why is your system better?

I would think that is lighter (not sure) and I can change my final drive ratio by changing the rear sprocket.

That Quaife box was about three grand last time I looked, I would be amazed if it was £975

Powertec website says 2490 gear drive, 1290 chain drive, and that´s probably ex-vat.

975 would be cheap!

Which engines does the Quaife fit? I've only seen it for Hayabusa so far.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Yes, sorry I was wrong. He gave no link from his email to his site and I got the products mixed up with this one:

http://www.quaife.co.uk/Yamaha-R1-1000cc-6-speed-gearkit

sorry. So with the correct price I might just stay clear of it.

I've seen that type of geared Quaife fitted to ZZR1100/1200 and Blackbird motors, it doesn't fit the R1 or the CBR1000RR as well I believe there isn't enough room for the cup drive on either of those two motors as the sprocket is very close to the crankcase

Cheers
