Triumph Dolomite
Anyone had one? Any experiences? The one i am looking at is a 1500 in lovely 70's brown 
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Is it FWD or RWD?
Or was that the Toledo?

An ex used to have a yellow 1300 one a lonnng time ago.
Remember it being gutless and wobbly but reliable and surprisingly pleasant to drive.

I had a 1500 Dolomite in white when I was about 19 - lovely car to drive as I recall......... it quite literally dissolved though

I had an 1850 automatic for a while. Very nice car. Reliable considering the age, and very easy and cheap to fix when it went wrong
As long as it's the RWD version I think you will be OK

i have had an 1850hl and a 1500hl loved them both very under rated in my opinion just watch for the tin worm

I had a sprint. Loved it. Beautifully balanced neutral handling. Totally flattered my driving skills. Used to drive round a big local roundabout just
on the throttle. Often did several circuits when there was no traffic. Never been able to do that in any other car I have owned as I'm just not
good enough.

It used Toledo running gear, I remember welding several of them in my youth and a Dolomite Sprint in BRG for a work colleague.

1500 engine very prone to bottom end problems --- big ends & crank thrust bearing wear.
Gearbox is same as Marina/Ital but gives much less trouble in the this model.
For some reason build quality was much better on 1500TC & Dolomite badged models than if they had the Toledo badge.
Very rot prone of course --- steel pressings were tissue paper thin in places.

my first car was a 1300 toledo (with sprint alloys), it was good fun being rwd and I even put a recon engine in it with unleaded head when i ran the
big ends but then my dad fried the wiring loom and it went for parts 
beware, I've got yellow skin

Forgive me if I'm wrong but, I was under the impression that the Toledo was FWD and the Dolomite RWD otherwise very similar design. Please
enlighten me....

Toledo was rwd. I drove one after i was offered it as a donor a few years back which is why im thinking about this one for my 'get to college
and back for 2 years' car

the triumph 1300, toledo and then dolly were rwd, think it was the dolly 1500tc and 1300fwd that was fwd, the 1500hl was rwd and had the 1850/sprint
front twin lights/grill. The sprint was the only one to have the vinyl roof and alloys as standard. Vinyl roof's changed depending if they were
early or late cars, can't remember which way round but some had seams along the roof and some didn't. sunroof's were rare.

Partly based on technology exchange with SAAB the original 1300 FWD was way ahead of any other fwd car when it was launched, the interior trim levels
and features were pretty amazing for its day BUT corners had been cut it was a rust bucket, the transmission wasn't 100% sorted and cost too
much.
The FWD 1500 was almost the same but introduced a solid beam axle to lower costs and also make the RWD Dolomite and Toledo ranges possible.
Later of course FWD models were dropped from the range and the 1500 went RWD.
