black tintop: your opinions
the wifes getting a new car, and she wants a black one, i;ve always steered clear of black cars in the past as they always tended to look tatty
(swirls in the paintwork chips etc)
anyone gott a black car?, would you have another

Had a black leon cupra - looked spanking....for a few months  Never looked properly clean and the slightest chip, scratch etc exposes the light
grey primer underneath.
Now have a bright red passat which TBH isn't much better, but better than black.
Sister's has a black fiesta and brother in-law has a black (new) leon cupra - same story applies.

Yup - got one one, had another in the past too. Porbably have another one too. Either thant or a dark metallic blue. Black does look awsome (when
clean, but its a bugger to keep clean)

I've had a couple.
As others have said, really tough to keep looking clean.
Current silver car look clean longer.

Depends if you want a show winning car or a car that people just see bluring past in lane 3.
Not saying it will go faster but just how many cars look perfect parked up?

Had a couple of black cars (Locost included) If you wash with clean water, no soaps or waxes, the properly waxed shine lasts for ages!! I'd have
another black car, that's my current fave colour - even the wife likes it (her MGTF was black).

Ive always steered clear of black cars in the past, mainly for the "always look dirty" issue apart from when freshly washed, but when I
bought my 123d last month, one came up that was the right spec at the right price, so i took the plunge.
So far its been Ok, I dont actually think my car looks worse than other colours when mucky (and much better than the in-vogue white), you just notice
it more once you've cleaned it.
Paint swirls could be an issue but if you take care when washing it then it shouldnt be too much of a problem. Stone chips are harder to avoid and
even though mine is only a year old and 10k miles, it already has a few, but they don't show up unless you really look. I guess it depends on
paint quality and what undercoat colour they use though.

I have a metallic black A3 - looks stunning when clean.........for 5 minutes.
However, I still think its the best colour for the car.
Some colours suits some cars and not others.
(that doesn't help much does it?)

Black cars also tend to be unbearably hot in the sun , air con works overtime if it fitted.

Think of solar gain. There are solar heaters. There are solar ovens. There are solar furnaces and then there was my dad's Mk1 Escort after a
summer's afternoon in an open car park. The vinyl seats would peel the flesh clean off the legs of a 7 year old in shorts. I developed a
technique of pushing up with the palm of my hands to make an air gap between legs and seats. I'd steer clear.

My mum used to have a black rx8 - it looked sh1t hot parked up and in motion, but you must have the right car with the right lines.
Think of the mk 1 golf gti, in black with the red grill trim, it looked fantastic. Some say that its because the combination of mainly black and the
little bit of red reminded people subconciously of a gun with it's safety catch, very mean and purposeful

I have always liked black cars but avoided them due to the high milage I do (Clean for 5 mins).
Decided to take the plunge this time with a Black SAAB 93 and the colour suits it.
Black cars do look scruffy as they get older. I washed it yesterday and was quite supprised to see the number of tiny stone chips on the front edge of
the bonnet after 9 months. They are small and if the car were silver or like they would not show as they are only in the laquer. But the gritters have
been out in force this winter on the motorways.

Metallic Black Mondy estate delivered Nov.
Not that much trouble to keep clean. Tend to do it every other Saturday after taking my daughter swimming.
Normally takes about 30 minutes to clean up and after 4,5k miles still looks spanking
Don't think it shows the dirt that badly either when compared with other cars in the street.
Braved the car wash for the first time yesterday but only cos it was free. Doubt I'll use it again.

True, I remember this even on non-black cars, but how many modern cars can you think of that come with vinyl seats these days?
Black is a great looking colour for most cars IMO, but there's no doubt it requires more maintenance.

Before you just said you'd steer clear there it was about even with people saying yes get it and people saying no leave it. So I would go out on
a limb and please don't take offence as none is meant but I reckon yoy were subconciously thinking steer clear and were just looking for a bit
of support in that direction? If that's the case then just leave it as I don't think you'd ever be happy with it and would always be
noticing things.
Just as a matter of fact I picked up a black hatchback on Friday, a new shaped Astra and I love it. Just spent about 3 hours claying it and washing
it. Had quite a few "nice car" comments already.
