brake calipers
Hi everyone
I have a question for you, i have a pair of Sierra front calipers taken from a car with vented discs, I
also have a new pair of solid discs which obviously are thinner, the diameters are the same so my
question is.....can I use the calipers on the thinner disc?

In theory, yes you can, but for how long?
as when the pads get some wear, the pistons will be out quite a fair bit, and could pop out!!

I would guess the pad carriers will be too wide and allow the pads to to drop out once they get a bit of wear on them.

It might work and it might be safe (you could check to see the pistons don't come out at max travel) but I wouldn't ever recommend it -
apart from any of the safety points, when the pistons are at extension they have a tendency to rock over with the pad movement. This regularly caused
seizing of pistons with very worn pads on my old car (despite new pistons and clean bores). Use the part designed for the job.

I'd say no, unless you properly adapt them for the use. Either making the caliper itself smaller, or using proper specially made shims to space
back pad (non piston side) out.
Although I reckon it would be easier and better to source some calipers designed for the job.
