I had to have a tracker on my old elise for insurance purposes. It was from tracker themselves. I detested it. If the car got stolen i didn't wan't it back after being ragged senseless by whoever stole it, so would have preferred not to have one.

If you really want one, they were fine. Good service.

I wouldnt be too interested in the subscription tracker service, but one i can track by myself using the GSM / GPRS network. I know id have to pay for the sim card and credit / contact, but i think it would be worth it...? - Even if it had been ragged senseless.

I wouldnt bother - they end up costing you a fortune - I had one on my M3 for a few years - get something that screams bells and horns - not something silent - a good quality cat 1 alarm, bit of garage security - job done

The "in Gear" section of the Sunday Times yesterday had a little review of exactly these things, but I can't find it online. I'll see what it says when I get home.

I couldn't resist, I bought one. It works really well. Text it and it responds with it's lat and long. Put the lat and long into google maps and it marks the location on map, satellite and street view! Fantastic! It even works anywhere in the world!

I fitted it with a PAYG SIMM which I got free when I bought a £10 top up card which will give 100 position responses (10p per text).

It's certainly a Locost tracker. Cheaper to buy and no monthly subscription!

Its a definite possibility, but a bit too portable really. On the plus side, i can use it for other stuff!
