Raw Stiker
Any reason why the Raw Striker is noticeably absent from these forums...........
Is it down to the fact that it's not really considered locost? (quick add up looks like £9-10k minimum)
Admt to not being an expert (more a rank amateur!), but have now had a test drive in 6 different 7 style kit cars, and the striker seemed top top
notch.

To be honest i recon they are a step up from the norm in build quality. I don't understand why there are not more on here. Great cars!

Tis a little bit of you get what you pay for I suppose, did seem a step up from what I'd been in ( a couple of tigers, MK, MNR, Dax, westie
etc)
and it only had a 1600 toyota engine yet went like stink and rev'd to hell and back!
I was all set on an avon (i know, I know) but after getting in a Striker I think i've found what i'm looking for, if not what my wallet
was 
Marking up a spec I was up to nearly £12k

Perhaps because there's already quite an active discussion list for Sylva cars.

Although I think some on there frown upon the Raw striker as not "Jeremy Phillips"

I am currently building a Striker, mine is an older one, it's the MKII version. I bought it earlier in the year on Pistonheads as an unstarted
kit. Anyway, I too have noticed the lack of info about Strikers on this site. I was going to ask whether anyone new of an owners club or anyone that
has built a Striker. It is nice occasionally to ask questions about build problems and to compare notes. If anyone knows of a Striker owner on this
site? Like for example..
Just fitted a crossflow engine withe standard Escort 4 speed box in mine using engine mounts supplied with the kit. Engine mounts line up fine, but
the gearbox does not extend far enough into the tunnel to pick up on the gearbox mount. I could fabricate something of course, but you then begin to
question whether you have done something wrong. Anyone with any knowledge of this?

In my experience of this Forum, all are welcome no matter what cars they are building. As my build has progressed I have received an enormous amount
of help and advice on my build and made some good friends along the way. The knowledge and data base out there, not just on car building, is
formidable as the French would say.
Depending on the kit, you have more or less to do to achieve a finished car but many areas are common no matter what you are building particularly
when it comes to getting through SVA and this is where this Forum comes into its own. So many have been down the same road and, in general, no matter
what the problem there is someone ready and pleased to give you the answer.
So, in short, welcome Unkle.

Hi
Running a Striker - Mk3 (the one with the outboard front shocks) from the late 80's.
Bought as a dismantled rolling chassis in 98, re-registered and back on the road in 2000 built by my brother and I
Started with crossflow / 4speed and slowly evolved it over a few seasons hillclimbing and sprinting to current RAW 4age / BGH type9
The guys at Raw are a great bunch and have been invaluable in helping us develop an older car into something fairly competitive. I think the fact that
versions of the car going back to the earliest Mk11's are still out there competing (and winning) and that Raw can happily support them all
speaks volumes about the brand and the people involved.
(And they're NTDWM - just a very happy punter!)

The way I perceive a true Locost is that theorectically at least it can be fully built from a setup of plans and 100% recycled parts/material.
The Raw Striker is built around a pre-made chassis and body panel kit. So at the bare minimum will cost around £3K to start the build.

Still puzzling how such a good Kit & Car is so under represented, I do think that possibly comes down to cost as it is somewhere between all of
the locosts and Caterham/Westfield (and probably nearer the caterham end).
And I am soooo impressed with the 20v Variable Valve Toyota Engine, totally superb. It may only be 1600 but if ever an engine was made for a
lightweight kit car that is it.
At over £2400 for a fully recon one ready to drop in isn't cheap, add £600 for the gearbox plus all ancillaries needed and your up to not far
short of £3750.
But then 0-60 in 4.5 sec's ins't cheap (unless you go BEC). Although you can get that under 4 seconds for another £500!
Without even trying you're up to £12k in Kit form and no doubt you'd end up spending more.

There is a 20V motor on a crate on ebay from what looked like a reputable engine importer - THAT IS ALSO A BARGAIN!

You'd probably want an Omex ECU etc but even so, GET IN THERE!

Hey unkle,
I, like you, was going down the avon road (despite some bad press for the kit) until I had a ride in RAW's striker demo car around Brands Hatch
in the summer. I was very impressed with the whole kit and the guys were really helpful.
I've had to delay any build for the time being because of constraints on my time at the moment, but when I can actually start building the
Striker will be top of my wish list. (now I just need to find the money for one!)

Sadly I don't move/get my garage until sometime Late jan/Eaqrly feb (assuming nothing goes wrong).
is it the full kit? (can't get on pistonheads from work) - details?

Chassis kit with RAC roll bar and side impact bar not powder coated,
Ally panel set,
new style body work in orange with black wings,
capri front uprights with ally hubs,
wilwood brakes all round,
subaru 4.4 lsd diff,
custom ally rad,
foam filled fuel tank with in tank pump,
Caterham style column and carbon steering wheel,
Gaz gold shocks,
OZ chrono ht wheels with toyo 888's,
Toyota black top 20v, with omex 600 ecu and light weight fly wheel, ally bell housing.
There may be more i've forgotten but that will give you an idea!
If you were seriously intereted and prepared to pay a deposit I could prob keep hold of it till about january.

No, it's rear bar with cross brace and rear supports. the side impact bar then fits in 3 points down the drivers side.

I have a sylva striker
with in board springs and dampers, has a ZX9r engine in it though
I have the build manual back from '96 but to be fair if you want advice I suggest you sign up to Sylva Chat and ask any questions.
