Escort axle torque ?

I am thinking of using the heavy Essex 3 litre V6 engine and 5 speed box from a Reliant Scimitar. Would the standard Escort diff and halfshafts withstand the torque ?
I do have a complete Scimitar that I can break, so also have the axle, anybody know if it would fit ? anybody else tried this ?
Look forward to replies

If you're building a Tiger Avon don't you need the Sierra diff and drivshafts for the IRS set-up?

If so the Sierra set-up will cope with the torque.

It should cope fine. The English has a bit of a poor reputation, but that is more due to it's halfshaft problems on rally cars. They don't break under power, but tend to break upon heavy landings after jumps. I can't really see this as being a problem unless you are going to be doing Dukes Of Hazard driving or tuning the Essex to 300bhp.

Compared to a modern motor the Essex is very heavy and underpowered, not to mention expensive. For what you could sell the engine for, you could have a lot more modern motor, with the same sort of power and for much less of a weight disadvantage. A two litre Zetec, running standard injection, is only 14 bhp behind the Essex and is about 50kg lighter and will cost you peanuts.

As for the hideousness of the Phaeton, there's no help.
